CALL FOR ABSTRACTS        VULNERABILITY IN DENTISTRY           Deadline for submission July 15, 2022

14th IDEALS Congress 8-10 September, 2022 Leuven, Belgium

 

FORMAT: The 14th IDEALS Congress can include Oral presentations (20 minutes); Poster Presentations; and Panel Discussions. The final decision on the distribution of abstracts between these formats will rest with the organization committee, however, presenters are requested to state their preferred choice when submitting their abstracts.

 

LANGUAGE: The Congress will be conducted mainly in English and all PowerPoint slides must be in English.

Leuven is a multilingual community and some breakout sessions can accommodate other languages. Please contact [] if you are unable to provide an abstract in English or wish to present a paper in another language.

These languages are French, Spanish, Italian. We will translate abstracts and Powerpoint presetations into English

 

ABSTRACTS (max 250 words) preferably in English and sent as a Word document with the following information: Title of Paper, Presenter [LAST NAME, First name]:   

 Email address of the presenter, Category – ethics, law, both, other (humanities, religion, public health, etc.)

Preferred Presentation format: Poster, Oral Presentation, Panel (Final decisions rest with the organization committee)

Send abstracts or questions about presentations to: .Please include ABSTRACT in the subject of the email.

Early submissions are encouraged. If you require confirmation that your abstract has been accepted before you can attend the Congress or make your travel bookings, please indicate in your submission. Feedback will be sent but the format will be given after all abstracts are reviewed.

 

PROGRAMME:

Thursday: DENTAL ETHICS – Vulnerability in Dentistry: An examination of ethical issues.

The congress will cover the ethical issues relating to vulnerability. It will include (but not limited) a discussion of patients with disabilities in their health and disadvantage due to poverty and displacement. Rapid changes in communication and business practices within professions have the potential of ethical and legal risks for patients, dentists and the community. We accept all papers about dental ethics.

Friday: Legal

We will go as broad as possible – the relation between the patient, the dentist and the community. Will there be an evolution in dentistry – overtreatment – undertreatment. Affordable treatment?

Saturday:  evaluation of dental damage – insurances     Case reports

Welcome reception will be on Wednesday evening   Congress diner will be on Friday.

 

IDEALS – International Dental Ethics and Law Society
As the name suggests, it is an association whose members approach dental ethics and law from many professional and discipline perspectives.

  • oral health professionals who deliver care to patients;
  • lawyers, regulators, administrators who provide framework and management;
  • educators, writers, and researchers;
  • in the fields of dentistry, philosophy, the humanities and social sciences.

The purpose IDEALS is to provide an opportunity for such a diverse group to exchange ideas, to share research and debate experiences in ethics and law as they relate to dentistry.

 

What you should know about Leuven

It is an ancient city dating from the 9th century with it is known for its cultural history and its university. KU Leuven is nearly 600 years old and is the oldest Catholic University in the world still functioning.

Leuven, population just over 100,000, is located 25 kilometres east of Brussels. Sebastien Artois started brewing in Leuven in 1708 and the beer Stella Artois is still brewed in Leuven. During early September the climate is mild and pleasant for walking in the ancient lanes and relaxing in the outdoor cafes absorbing the atmosphere of the city.

 

The Congress Venue

The Faculty Club is situated on the edge of the city (1.5 km from the centre). It is located in a restored 13th-16th century building in the Great Beguinage (Groot Begijnhopf) of Leuven – a UNESCO world heritage site. http://www.facultyclub.be/en/

The lectures and meetings will be held in various rooms at this venue.

Congress Dinner will also be held at the Faculty Club on Thursday evening. Dress code is business informal and guests are welcome. The cost for the dinner is €80.
